Wedding Chapel
The Mariana Wedding Chapel was the 50th anniversary-wedding gift from former President Rodrigo Carazo to First Lady Estrella Carazo. Built in 1997, its unique ceiling, comprised of 840 hand-painted ceramic tiles, depicts the history of the Virgin Mary when first introduced into Latin America by Christian missionaries. Open daily to our hotel guests (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.), the chapel overlooks the “casita” village and Hacienda at Villa Blanca and can accommodate intimate events or larger parties of up to 80 guests.
Please email our bridal consultant to get started on an unforgettable wedding experience, vow renewal or other family celebrations. The tile ceiling was created by Doña Estrella’s sister, Mariela Zeledón and was inspired by the original chapel of La Sixtina de La Maiolica Chapel, built in Italy in the 17th Century. Dona Estrella’s daughter Rebecca Fernandez, created the original murals displayed on the hacienda corridors. Her grandfather, Jose Maria Zeledon, authored the lyrics of Costa Rica National Anthem. The lyrics are painted on a ceramic fresco located on the North side of the chapel altar. Each of the 18 handmade Cedar benches were crafted by local artisans.
