Cloud Forest Quetzal

One of Villa Blanca’s most popular off property tours, you’ll depart the hotel at 7:15 a.m. for an approximately 45 minute scenic drive to the Azahar Peak, near La Paz de San Ramón. Continuing on to the summit, you’ll enter a private family-operated farm where the Quetzal nests. Along a well-maintained trail, you may see the footprints of the wild boars and mountain cats that inhabit this elevation. There is also a variety of high-altitude dwelling birds, including the elusive Quetzal that nests between February and June. Once you see this remarkable bird, you will understand why indigenous populations across the region considered it a mystical creature and how truly fortunate we are that they have been protected in private reserves across this wonderful place, Costa Rica.
