One of Villa Blanca’s most popular off property tours, you’ll depart the hotel at in the morning for an approximately 45 minute scenic drive to the Azahar Peak, near La Paz de San Ramón. Continuing on to the summit, you’ll enter a private family-operated farm where the Quetzal nests. Along a well-maintained trail, you may see the footprints of the wild boars and mountain cats that inhabit this elevation. There is also a variety of high-altitude dwelling birds, including the elusive Quetzal that nests between mid February and the end of May. Once you see this remarkable bird, you will understand why indigenous populations across the region considered it a mystical creature and how truly fortunate we are that they have been protected in private reserves across this wonderful place, Costa Rica.
